2026 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Winner – Doña
Lucia Massey, Co-founder of Doña, reflects on winning the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award, the journey behind the bar’s success, and what’s next for the team as they stay true to their ethos.
What does winning this award mean to the team, and how does it inspire your next goals?
It is always lovely to be recognised for something that you have put a lot of heart and soul into. Receiving an award from the BMAs was a real high point for us as a team.
Can you share a defining moment or experience that led the team to where you are today and contributed to this recognition?
There are too many things for one single event to stand out. Doña is a sum of its parts; every party and event that has taken place in the space, and every drink sold brought us to where we are today and played a part in being recognised for what we do.
How do you strive to make a meaningful impact in your field?
We try, at all times, to maintain our integrity and our core values. We strive to honour what we set out to do, and believe that our little corner of the world is better for holding on to true values.
What advice would you give to aspiring venues looking to achieve similar success?
Have an idea of what makes you you and stick to it, and don’t be seduced by the mainstream!
What’s next for Doña in terms of your future goals?
We are excited to be working on a pop-up project this summer with Battersea Arts Centre, and are looking forward to our Salsa Summer Fridays!
